The layout is basically a large "out and back" convoluted oval consisting
of a primary and secondary mainline both supported by a seven-track staging
yard. They are also supported by a small through yard about midway
through the layout.
There is about 1500 feet of track, including the staging yard. While not long in terms of scale mileage (110 feet = 1 O-scale mile) that's still quite a bit of track. The benchwork is complete and we have the two operational mainline loops running with mountain branch line and harbor industrial sections currently under construction. The primary mainline is designed for operation in either direction and is equipped with block signals (although they don't protect against collision.) There are two scratch-built wooden trestles and a third is being designed. Recent additions to the layout include the installation of Lionel's TMCC command system as well as MTH's DCS system. Plans call for the implementation of an expanded mountain branch. As they say, "no layout is every really finished." |
