My layout is 30' X30'.  I run DCS, TMMC and Conventional.
There are 3 levels all interconnected and it can run 6 trains at one time, with approximately 1,800 LF of track.
I've been working on it for 18 years and have been involved in raliroading since 1948.
I operate newer equipment and have a substantial collection of pre and post war Lionel.

Traveling Box Car in tow behind original Lionel D&RG PA's, upgraded to DCS. Timber trestle constructed by cutting up scrap 2"X4" to scale size timber sizes and building piece by piece from the table top to grade, not from grade to table top.
Track is on a super.

Traveling Box Car still on trestle scale length 200', height 175', with unnamed coal Mining and shipping operation in view.

Traveling Box Car goes through grade crossing with the road going to the coal tipple.
Small bridge constructed in same manner as trestle.

Traveling Box Car still at grade crossing with coal tipple road. The road will eventually go to a, not visible, small mountain town. The town will be on the other side of the 3 track overpass.

Traveling Box Car moving across a side hill cut held in place by a stone retaining wall made from natural Lime Stone.
In view is a set of Lionel early MPC F-3's converted to DCS.

The other side view of the traveling Box Car looking away from the coal tipple.
MTH steam and diesel engines are on the top level mainline.

The steam engines that moved the Traveling Box Car through the layout were turned on this  36" table with 12 indexed tracks and 2- control stations.

The diesel engines that moved the Traveling Box Car were stored and moved out of the transfer table facility. The curved loop around it is the connector to the 1st and  2nd levels with wyes on both ends.

Traveling Box Car did pass by the open pit coal mine. Scenic efforts are needed beginning on the right, extending for 10'. Hopefully this can be done in the next 2 or 3 years.

Traveling Box Car passed through the oil collection facility in the back ground. The train on the 2nd tier track in the back is on the 2nd, 3rd level connector, with a wye on both ends. the Track is on a 2% grade beginning under the oil derrick.

Coal tipple area, loading track was extended over the creek to allow for the loading of more hoppers.
Additional details are in the works for this area.

Area 20' X 9'  needs to have scenery developed, it does present some problems.
The aluminum truss in the back ground is on the 2% grade tier 2, tier 3 connector.
The area with the 3-way switch will become a steam engine service facility, and it connects with the turn table track #1, not shown.

3rd level area currently receiving scenery attention. Area in the lower left will receive a  weathered Lionel operating water tower, not the one with real water. To the Right is a pass through engine fueling facility, steam and diesel, not shown.
