| A trip to Disneyland was always an exciting adventure in the late 50's
and 60's. I remember driving out the Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) struggling
to see the top of the Rocket Ship from from our "Two-Tone Blue 1957 Ford
Custom". In the early days, the Rocket Ship, which marked the Trip
to the Moon ride, was the tallest thing there. In 1959 when they
built the Matterhorn, we had a new icon to watch for. Strangly enough
now, you can hardly see the Matterhorn from the freeway. Anaheim
has grown up so much around Disneyland, we used to be able to see the Matterhorn
from quite a distance.
My favorite Rides Probably, my favorite ride was the Matterhorn. This ride was originally in Tomorrowland but around 1971 they decided to say it was in Fantasyland. Officially it was called the "Matterhorn Bobsleds" and, of course, was an E-Ticket. I distinctly remember a couple of things about the Bobsled ride. Firstly, I was scared to death during the entire ride. I am pretty sure that the Bobsleds were my first "rollercoaster" experience. I am pretty sure you had to be 10 years old and a certain height to ride the Bobsleds. One time we went to Disneyland for my birthday and it was my 10th birthday also. You needed to be 35" tall...
