At this writing, I have been friends with Steve Howard for over 30
years. I remember the first time I saw him at the Television Center
at the University Of Maryland. He always wore a tie and was working
behind the glass window at the Tech Center. I had joined the University
of Maryland Television Workshop. Each day, we showed up early to
produce a news program and Steve would show up early to help us get our
news program "On The Air". He did this as a volunteer, above and
beyond the call of duty. Why Did He Do That ???
That was just Steve.
I really thought that Steve had a cool job at the University. He could run all the cool equipment in the Television Tech Center and seemed to be the guy "in charge". I think one of the most important things I learned from Steve was to take every job seriously. To Steve, every job he performed was done as if it was the most important job anyone could have. Steve was a Graduate Student in the RTVF
Division at the University of Maryland. By the time I became
really involved in the television program at Maryland, he was half way
through his program. Steve would volunteer for just about every program
that involved television and that had a tremendous impact on me.
Even with my energetic approach to life, Steve always seemed to pull out
some new bit of time and energy to get involved in some new and interesting
project.
